'Game of Thrones movie Aegon’s Conquest' sets 2029 release date

The first Game of Thrones movie, Aegon’s Conquest, has set a June 6, 2029 release date, bringing the world of Westeros to the big screen for the first time.

Owen Harris, who is also involved with HBO’s upcoming series A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, will direct the film. Beau Willimon has written the screenplay for the upcoming Game of Thrones movie.

Plot details for Aegon’s Conquest remain limited, but the story is expected to focus on Aegon I Targaryen and his conquest of Westeros, which took place centuries before the events of the original Game of Thrones series.

Aegon I, the founder of the Targaryen dynasty, has not previously appeared on screen. Casting details for the character and other roles have not yet been announced.

The Targaryen family has remained a major part of HBO’s expansion of the Game of Thrones universe. The dynasty was central to House of the Dragon, which explores events involving the Targaryen family roughly 200 years before Game of Thrones.

The original Game of Thrones series, based on George R.R. Martin’s fantasy novels, ran for eight seasons from 2011 to 2019. The series received widespread recognition during its run, including multiple Emmy Awards.

Meanwhile, HBO is continuing to expand the franchise on television. House of the Dragon is set to return for a fourth season, while A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms has also been renewed for a second season.

With Aegon’s Conquest, the Game of Thrones franchise is set to extend its story from television to the cinema in 2029.
