The trailer for Johnny Depp’s supernatural revenge thriller Day Drinker has been released, giving audiences a first look at the actor’s role as a mysterious guest aboard a private yacht.

Depp, 63, appears with grey, unkempt hair, a scruffy beard and a thick accent in the trailer. His character becomes involved with yacht bartender Lorna, played by Madelyn Cline, as the pair become connected to criminal figure Cara Lazaro, portrayed by Penélope Cruz.

The film is directed by Marc Webb, known for 500 Days of Summer and The Amazing Spider-Man. It is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on March 26 2027.

In the trailer, Depp’s character says, “I've made a living out of misbehavior. I see no tangible reason to stop now.”

He later adds, “My story, perhaps it's a tale of revenge, or perhaps something worse. What if all this is a ghost story? Or maybe I'm just another day drinker.”

Day Drinker marks another collaboration between Depp and Cruz. The pair previously appeared together in the 2001 crime drama Blow, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides in 2011 and Murder on the Orient Express in 2017.

Cline, who is known for Outer Banks and I Know What You Did Last Summer, plays Lorna, while Cruz stars as Cara Lazaro.

The trailer has prompted reactions from fans on social media. One fan wrote, “I feel like Johnny Depp will give us his best performances over the next two decades,” while another commented: “Can't stop watching this... Seriously.”

Day Drinker is part of Depp’s return to major Hollywood productions following his 2022 legal battle with former wife Amber Heard.

The actor is also set to appear in the upcoming Charles Dickens adaptation Ebenezer.
