Minecraft reveals first new dimension in over 10 years

Minecraft is set to receive its first new dimension in more than 14 years, with Mojang revealing The Sift during Minecraft Live on September 26.

The Sift will become the fourth dimension in Minecraft, joining the Overworld, the Nether and the End. The Nether was introduced in 2010, followed by the End in 2011.

According to Mojang’s official Minecraft Live recap, The Sift is “beautiful, vibrant, and teeming with souls.”

The dimension was shown in a trailer featuring pink blocks, blue-green vegetation and a new mob that inhabits the area.

However, Mojang has not yet revealed how players will access The Sift when it arrives in the main game.

The Sift will first appear in Minecraft Dungeons II, the upcoming action RPG spin-off scheduled to launch on September 29.

Players will be able to explore locations within the dimension, including the Meadow and the Carapace.

Minecraft Java Edition and Bedrock Edition will not receive The Sift until 2027. Mojang has not announced a more specific release date or explained how the new dimension will be incorporated into the main game.

Minecraft Live also confirmed that Minecraft will launch on Nintendo Switch 2 on October 27. The update will arrive alongside a new Ice Caves drop.

The broadcast additionally revealed plans for the world’s first Minecraft rollercoaster and official hotel at Chessington in the UK.
