Xbox responds to reports of GTA 6 pre-orders favouring PS5

Xbox says it is 'very happy' with GTA 6 pre-orders after reports suggested PS5 sales were ahead

Xbox has responded to reports that Grand Theft Auto 6 pre-orders are heavily skewed towards PlayStation, saying it is “very happy” with the number of pre-orders on its platform.

The response came from Matthew Ball, Xbox’s Chief Strategy Officer, following reports from The Verge’s Tom Warren that GTA 6 pre-orders were “heavily skewed” towards Sony’s console.

“Tom, we are very happy with GTA VI pre-orders,” Ball said on X (formerly Twitter). “The title is breaking records for XBOX, we expect even more records will be broken throughout the fall, and our internal analysis shows our share of pre-orders to be matching our share of the console market.”

GTA 6 has received several marketing promotions focused on PlayStation, including an extended gameplay look that was recorded on a PlayStation 5. A GTA 6-themed PlayStation controller has also been released.

Rockstar Games and Sony have a longstanding marketing agreement for the game, with reports claiming that GTA 6 could offer features such as near-instant loading on PlayStation.

The game’s pricing was confirmed in June, with Rockstar setting the standard edition at $79.99. An Ultimate Edition is priced at $100, following earlier speculation that the base game could cost $100.

GTA 6 is scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026. The game will be available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
