Joe Alwyn and Mary Beth Barone set to star in 'Still We Met'

Mary Beth Barone will write and star opposite Joe Alwyn in 'Still We Met', with Lena Dunham among the EPs

Comedian and writer Mary Beth Barone is set to make her feature screenwriting and acting debut with Still We Met, an original romantic comedy that will see her star opposite Joe Alwyn.

Barone wrote the film, which is loosely inspired by her own experiences. The story follows a young woman at a crossroads who meets a charming British stranger and spends an unforgettable night exploring New York City. As they spend time together, the pair reveal more about themselves than either initially intended.

Zackary Drucker, known for the Emmy-nominated short-form docuseries This Is Me, will make her narrative feature directorial debut with the project. Production is scheduled to begin this fall in New York.

Jack Heller and Caitlin de Lisser-Ellen will produce the film for Assemble Media, while Alex Bach and Daniel Powell will produce for Irony Point. Lena Dunham and Michael Cohen are executive producing through their Good Thing Going banner, with Madison Wolk serving as co-producer alongside Blake Mars.

Barone recently wrote and starred opposite Benito Skinner in the Amazon/A24 comedy Overcompensating. She also recently released her Netflix stand-up special Galaxy Brain, which reached the platform’s Top 10.

Alwyn, meanwhile, has recently appeared in Chloé Zhao’s Hamnet and Brady Corbet’s The Brutalist. He is also set to appear in Sam Esmail’s upcoming film Panic Carefully alongside Julia Roberts, Eddie Redmayne and Elizabeth Olsen, as well as Apple TV+ series The Husbands.

Still We Met marks a new feature project for Barone as she expands her work across comedy, acting and screenwriting.
