Andrzej Sapkowski confirms he is working on new Witcher book, with Geralt expected to return

A new Witcher book is in development, with author Andrzej Sapkowski confirming that he is working on the next instalment in the fantasy series.

Sapkowski confirmed at a recent convention appearance in Poland that he is writing another Witcher book and expects to finish it by the end of 2027.

The book is expected to feature Geralt of Rivia again, with Sapkowski saying he does not intend to write Witcher books centred on other characters such as Yennefer.

The next book will follow 2025’s The Witcher: Crossroads of Ravens, a prequel focusing on a young Geralt and his first major adventure as a Witcher.

The Witcher series has previously explored different periods of Geralt’s life, leaving years of his history open for further stories. Sapkowski has also previously discussed the possibility of returning to Geralt’s earlier years.

In an interview with IGN, Sapkowski said, “Sky is the limit,” when asked whether there was room for additional Geralt prequels. He also said, “I am considering writing more short stories.”

Sapkowski began The Witcher series with short stories before publishing two collections ahead of the first novel, Blood of Elves. However, he has described writing short fiction as particularly demanding.

“It is not an easy thing to create a good short story. This is much more difficult than writing a novel,” Sapkowski said.

If Sapkowski completes the new book by the end of 2027, Polish readers could potentially receive it in late 2027 or early 2028. International readers could receive the book later, based on the release schedule for Crossroads of Ravens.

The Witcher franchise has also expanded into video games and television, with The Witcher 4 currently expected in 2028 and Netflix continuing its adaptation of the books.
