Prime Video has opted not to renew Ride Or Die for a second season, despite strong viewership and positive reviews, Deadline reports.

Paramount Television Studios, the series’ lead studio, is now shopping the buddy spy comedy to other potential buyers.

Starring Hannah Waddingham and Octavia Spencer, Ride Or Die premiered on July 15 and quickly gained traction.

The series reached No. 1 in the daily US rankings and recorded 927,000 views in its first two days, according to Luminate data.

The show also performed well on Nielsen’s streaming charts, debuting with 869 million minutes viewed before rising to 922 million minutes in its second week.

It remained in Prime Video’s Global Top 10 more than two months after release. It has also earned a 96% critics’ score and an 85% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Created by Tessa Coates, the series follows best friends Debbie Claybourne (Spencer) and Judith Burton (Waddingham).

Their friendship is thrown into turmoil when Debbie discovers that Judith is an international assassin, forcing them to go on the run after a hit goes wrong.

Although the series reportedly came in under budget, the reasons for its cancellation remain unclear.

Deadline suggests its focus on middle-aged women may have influenced the decision, while stressing that the explanation is uncertain.

The first season ended on several cliffhangers, leaving major storylines open for a potential continuation.

Paramount Television Studios is now seeking another platform to carry the series forward.
