Ms Rachel to match Macklemore’s $1m Palestine aid donation, urges wealthy celebrities to follow suit

YouTube star Ms Rachel has announced that she will match Macklemore’s $1m donation to organisations supporting Palestinians, while urging other wealthy public figures to make similar contributions.

Ms Rachel, whose full name is Rachel Accurso, said her donation would go to the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund.

She wrote on Instagram, “Over 20,000 precious Palestinian children have been killed, and children continue to be killed every day.”

“We have a moral obligation to use our privilege and platforms to protect children and human rights,” she wrote, while encouraging “every wealthy white celebrity” to match her donation.

Accurso, who has more than 21 million YouTube subscribers, has previously spoken about the hardships faced by children in Gaza during the war with Israel.

Her announcement follows Macklemore’s decision to donate all of his earnings from Ed Sheeran’s tour to organisations supporting Palestinians.

Macklemore was removed as an opening act after saying “Free Palestine” during a concert at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium.

During another tour date, Macklemore addressed Jewish audience members, saying, “Criticism of Israel, criticism of apartheid, being against genocide in no way is a criticism of you. My message is for peace, love; for all human beings to be treated with dignity, respect and equality.”

Sheeran and Robert Kraft are each donating $2m to provide “aid in the region”, although the organisations receiving the funds have not been specified.

Four other supporting acts have also left the tour in solidarity with Macklemore.
