Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Sunday removed Jhelum Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mir Reza Ozgen from his post with immediate effect after expressing displeasure over his request to shift the venue of an intermediate examination paper ahead of her visit, according to a post by the chief minister on X.

In her post, the chief minister said she had issued “explicit instructions that no inconvenience or disruption whatsoever should be caused to the public during my visits to the districts”, but added that “such an incident has nevertheless occurred”.

“This is a clear disregard for my directions,” she said, announcing that the deputy commissioner (DC) had been “REMOVED FROM THE POST WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT”.

Attached to the post was a copy of a letter dated November 6 from the DC's Office in Jhelum to the chairman of the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE), Rawalpindi, concerning the Computer Science papers of the Intermediate Second Annual Examination 2026.

In the letter, the DC requested that the papers for both the first and second groups, scheduled for November 10 at Government Comprehensive School, Jhelum, be shifted to “another suitable examination centre” instead of postponing the examination across the district.

The letter said the proposed change was being sought “in view of the VVIP visit and the anticipated traffic congestion”, which, it added, “may cause inconvenience to the students and their parents”.

It further stated that the Computer Science paper “may kindly be shifted to another suitable examination centre instead of postponing the examination throughout the district”.

In a separate post, CM Maryam attached a copy of the notification ordering Ozgen's transfer from his post as deputy commissioner of Jhelum with immediate effect.

The notification, issued by the Services and General Administration Department, stated that Ozgen had been “directed to report to Services and General Administration Department, Government of the Punjab, for further orders”.
