Benny Blanco reveals the surprising reason he kept his signature curls

Benny Blanco has revealed that he seriously considered shaving his head but ultimately decided against the dramatic change because he was unsure what his head would look like without his signature curls.

The music producer and singer discussed the idea during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday, September 16. Blanco told host Jimmy Fallon that he had been thinking about actually shaving his head before worrying that he could have an unusual head shape.

Fallon agreed that Blanco should stick with his current hairstyle, prompting the producer to confirm that he was happy with his recognisable, voluminous curls.

Blanco recently gave fans the impression that he had gone through with the transformation while promoting his new book, Fck Failure*. He posted a prank suggesting that he had shaved one side of his head, but the stunt was not as amusing to everyone.

Blanco said his mother believed the fake haircut was real and immediately called him in disbelief. She even asked him to FaceTime her because she wanted proof that he had not actually shaved his hair. According to Blanco, creating the fake shaved-head look took around four hours.

The conversation comes shortly before Blanco and Selena Gomez celebrate their first wedding anniversary on September 27. Gomez recently described their first year of marriage as “wonderful” and said the couple are still in their “honeymoon stage”.

Gomez and Blanco first met as teenagers and later worked together musically before their friendship became a romantic relationship in 2023. They collaborated on their 2025 album I Said I Love You First, which debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200.
