Mary Beth Barone’s 'Hard Feelings' lands at Hulu with Benito Skinner joining A24’s romantic comedy series in key role

Hulu has acquired Hard Feelings, a new romantic comedy series created by and starring comedian, writer and actress Mary Beth Barone, with Benito Skinner joining the cast in a supporting role.

The series is being developed by A24 and has been fast-tracked for development following a competitive bidding process. Hard Feelings marks Barone’s first project as a series creator and lead actor.

The comedy follows Claire Ambrose, played by Barone, a New York City dating consultant who helps straight men develop communication skills and emotional intelligence. Despite advising clients on relationships, Claire repeatedly finds herself dating men who lack the qualities she teaches others to develop.

Details about Skinner’s role have not been disclosed. He previously worked with Barone on Prime Video’s Overcompensating, where she stars and also serves as a writer.

Scott King is attached as showrunner and executive producer on Hard Feelings. Barone and Skinner will also executive produce, alongside Mackenzie Roussos of E360 and A24.

The project continues the creative partnership between Barone and Skinner, who are longtime friends and co-host the podcast Ride. Skinner created, stars in and executive produces Overcompensating, which recently completed production on its second season.

Barone’s recent work includes her Netflix comedy special Galaxy Brain, released in July, while her first self-produced stand-up special, Thought Provoking, premiered in 2024. She has also appeared in television and film projects including The Bear, Nobody Wants This and Don’t Worry Darling.

Hard Feelings adds another collaboration between A24 and Skinner, while giving Barone a new platform to lead a romantic comedy series centred on dating and relationships.
