Kim Kardashian gets symbolic €1 after Paris court rules on 2016 robbery

Kim Kardashian has been awarded €1 in damages following the armed robbery she suffered at a Paris hotel in 2016, with the symbolic amount matching what she had requested from the court. The ruling was handed down on September 15 as the civil case connected to the high profile jewellery heist reached another stage.

Kardashian and stylist Simone Harouche, who was also present during the attack, received €1 each. In a joint statement reported by the Associated Press, the pair said the experience remained deeply traumatic and described the decision as being about accountability and recognition rather than financial compensation.

The robbery took place on October 2, 2016, during Paris Fashion Week. Two attackers disguised as police officers entered Kardashian's suite at the Hôtel de Pourtalès, restrained her and escaped with jewellery worth over $6m. Among the stolen items was a diamond engagement ring worth around $4m, which had been given to Kardashian by her then husband Kanye West. Most of the stolen jewellery has never been recovered.

The court also awarded €109,516 to a former hotel receptionist who said he had been traumatised by the incident. He had sought €550,000 in damages and interest. The hotel itself received €50,000, while Harouche received the same symbolic €1 as Kardashian.

The attackers became known in France as the Grandfather Robbers because of their ages. Eight people were convicted in connection with the robbery in 2025. Aomar Aït Khedache, identified as the mastermind, received a three year prison sentence, while seven others were also convicted. None returned to prison after the verdict because of time already served in pretrial detention, and no appeals were filed.

Kardashian previously testified about the fear she experienced during the attack and said she believed she could die. During the 2025 proceedings, she also told Khedache that she forgave him, while making clear that forgiveness did not erase the trauma.

The latest ruling closes another chapter in a case that has remained connected to Kardashian's public life for a decade. She and Harouche said they now hope to move forward and continue healing.
