'Slow Horses' renewed for season 8 at Apple TV after Emmy win

'Slow Horses' will return for season 8 on Apple TV, with Gary Oldman reprising his role as Jackson Lamb in spy drama

Apple TV has renewed the hit spy thriller Slow Horses for an eighth season, extending the series following its Emmy win for outstanding directing in a drama series.

Season 8 will consist of six episodes and will be adapted from Clown Town, the ninth novel in Mick Herron’s Slough House book series. Gary Oldman is set to return as Jackson Lamb, the gruff MI5 agent at the centre of the Apple TV series.

The upcoming season will also see Kristin Scott Thomas reprise her role as Diana Taverner. According to the season synopsis, Lamb and Taverner will face their biggest confrontation yet after a failed attempt to blackmail the Park puts Taverner on the offensive.

Lamb will be tasked with uncovering one of MI5’s darkest secrets and stopping Taverner’s plans. The new storyline will continue the show’s mix of espionage, political intrigue and dark humour.

The announcement comes as Slow Horses prepares to premiere its sixth season on Apple TV. The streamer announced a seventh season renewal last year, meaning the series now has at least two additional seasons in development.

Apple TV’s international creative director Jay Hunt praised the series’ global appeal and said she was pleased that Jackson Lamb and his group of misfits would return for another season.

Slow Horses is produced by See-Saw Films for Apple TV. Season 8 will be adapted for television and executive produced by Ben Vanstone, while Adam Randall is set to return as director. Mick Herron, Oldman and several members of the existing production team will also executive produce the series.

With its eighth season confirmed, Slow Horses remains one of Apple TV’s longest-running scripted dramas, continuing the story of Jackson Lamb and the Slough House team.
