Allison Janney pays tribute to Nancy Guthrie after Emmy win

Allison Janney paid tribute to Nancy Guthrie after winning the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for The Diplomat at the 2026 Emmy Awards.

Janney, who plays President Grace Penn in the political drama, discussed Guthrie’s disappearance while speaking to news outlets in a virtual press room following her win.

"I honestly can say I think about her every day and think about the loss and what Savannah and her family are going through," Janney said. "I don't think I'm alone too. I think all of America was thinking about her."

Nancy Guthrie, the mother of NBC Today co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, was last seen alive on the evening of January 31 at her home in Tucson, Arizona, according to authorities. Her family was informed the following day that she had failed to attend an online church viewing.

Janney had previously expressed support for Savannah Guthrie on social media and said she hoped there would be a development in the case.

The disappearance has also prompted Savannah Guthrie to make public appeals for information. In August, she marked six months since her mother was last seen by urging someone with information to come forward. A reward of more than $1.2 million has been offered for information about Nancy Guthrie’s recovery.

Janney’s Emmy win marked her eighth acting Emmy, tying her with Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Cloris Leachman and Jean Smart among performers with eight acting wins. Janney said the result had not been what she expected.

"This is not what I planned for this category at all," Janney admitted.
