Aneesh Sheth says she faced pay disparity, disrespect and being silenced while filming 'Red, White & Royal Wedding'

Aneesh Sheth has spoken about her experience working on Red, White & Royal Wedding, claiming she faced pay disparity, disrespect and a lack of support on the upcoming sequel.

The actress, who is reprising her role as Secret Service agent Amy Gupta, made the comments on Instagram on Friday, September 11.

She was responding to a video discussing discrimination faced by trans people in employment and creative industries.

“I can’t even begin to tell you how I was treated on my last film,” Sheth wrote, referring to Red, White & Royal Wedding.

“Huge pay disparity, disrespect, invalidated, silenced…I could go on. In a place I thought would have my back,” she continued.

“Aside from that one job I haven’t worked in over 4 years. I had a casting director flat out tell me people aren’t hiring trans actors because producers think of us as a liability.”

Sheth later explained that she had been told hiring a trans actor could potentially affect a production’s audience or profitability.

“with everything going on politically, hiring a trans person for a film/tv show could potentially alienate audiences slash not be lucrative. It’s ridiculous,” Sheth said.

“I’ve worked in this industry for almost 30 years. And now I’m being told I can’t get work simply because of who I am.”

Her co-star Ian McIntyre responded with support, saying she did not deserve the treatment and that people who knew her understood she should be treated better. Sheth replied that McIntyre had experienced the situation first-hand and thanked him for his support.

Following the response online, Sheth said she was grateful for the support she received from fans and others.

“I didn’t realize it was going to blow up that much and I really can’t say anymore right now,” she said on Instagram Stories. “But I hope when the time comes, I’m able to share more of my experiences.”

Red, White & Royal Wedding is the upcoming sequel to Red, White & Royal Blue, with Sheth returning alongside the returning cast.
