Blizzard announces Diablo 5 at BlizzCon 2026, with new game set 100 years after Diablo 4

Blizzard has announced Diablo 5, the next mainline entry in its long-running action RPG series, during the opening ceremony of BlizzCon 2026.

A short teaser shown during the ceremony confirmed the return of the Lord of Terror, with Diablo 5 set one century after the events of Diablo 4. The game is scheduled to release in spring 2029, six years after Diablo 4 launched.

Diablo 5 will be the first game in the series to take place entirely in a post-apocalyptic setting.

Blizzard has not yet revealed extensive story details, but the new timeline establishes a significant gap between the events of Diablo 4 and the upcoming sequel.

More information was shared later during the Diablo 5 Forging the Next Era Panel, where the development team provided a deeper look at the new game.

The announcement makes Diablo 5 the latest addition to Blizzard's long-running franchise, which first launched more than three decades ago.

Diablo 4 was released in 2023, making the planned 2029 launch the longest gap between the two most recent mainline games.

BlizzCon 2026 also featured several other Diablo announcements. Blizzard revealed The Amazon, a new class pack coming to Diablo 4 in 2027. The Diablo 4 Collection was also announced for Nintendo Switch 2.

Diablo 4 is additionally receiving Season 15, described as a broad playable look-back at the history of the Diablo franchise. The season is available now.

Diablo 5 is currently scheduled to launch in spring 2029.
