Pierce Brosnan and wife Keely Shaye Brosnan consider selling Malibu home after 26 years

Pierce Brosnan and his wife Keely Shaye Brosnan are considering selling their oceanfront Malibu home after 26 years, with the actor citing wildfires, natural disasters and changing priorities as some of the reasons behind the decision.

Brosnan, 73, discussed the possibility of leaving the longtime family property during an interview with The Times published on September 11. The couple have lived at the Malibu estate for more than two decades, but Brosnan suggested that the risks associated with its location have increasingly influenced their thinking.

“We've been spared by the fires a few times now. But I think it's time to move,” Brosnan said. “Everything changes; everything falls apart.”

The actor also pointed to Malibu's position along the coast and the area's vulnerability to earthquakes. “We live by this body of earth's water on a fault in a ring of earthquakes,” he said, adding that the situation “creates a fear.”

Brosnan and Keely, 62, bought two plots of land for the property in 2000, paying a combined $7.35 million. They initially lived in a small ranch-style house on the land before eventually tearing it down and building their own custom home.

Thailand, where Brosnan filmed Tomorrow Never Dies. The expansive property has five bedrooms and 14 bathrooms, as well as a spa and home cinema. The Times described the residence as resembling a “James Bond fever dream.”

The Malibu home has also been the setting for much of the couple's family life. Brosnan and Keely, who married in 2001, raised their two sons, Dylan and Paris, at the property. Dylan is now 29, while Paris is 25, and both have since moved out of the family home.

As their sons have grown older, Brosnan and Keely have increasingly spent time in Hawaii, where Keely was born. The couple have a smaller three-bedroom cottage in Kauai, where they maintain a more secluded lifestyle.

“We have our own chickens and I have a yurt, where I paint,” Brosnan told The Times of their Hawaii home.

The actor has previously spoken about his desire to spend more time in the islands. In 2020, the couple put their Malibu property on the market for $100 million, although it did not sell. At the time, Brosnan said, “It's time to move on... It's time to change.”

Despite his affection for Malibu, Brosnan has acknowledged that Hawaii has increasingly become home for the couple. “I love Malibu. It has my heart,” he said in 2020, while adding that “Home is very much here in the islands.”

Financial considerations have also played a role in the couple's thinking. Brosnan explained that maintaining such a large property comes with significant costs, whilehis social circle in Malibu has changed considerably over the years.

“There have been doldrums. I have this beautiful house in Malibu. I have to pay the mortgage. There are school fees,” he said, describing periods when the couple worried about their finances and whether they would find their next job.

Brosnan also reflected on how the community around them has changed. He described himself and Keely as “somewhat reclusive” and said their circle of friends in Malibu has become smaller as people have divorced, died or moved away.

The couple's concerns about remaining in Malibu come at a time when the region continues to face environmental risks, including wildfires and coastal hazards. Brosnan's comments suggest that the decision is not simply about selling a luxury property, but about reassessing the lifestyle they want at this stage of their lives.

For now, Brosnan and Keely have not confirmed that the Malibu estate has officially been listed for sale. Instead, the actor has indicated that they are considering a move after more than two decades at the property.

After 26 years, the couple appear increasingly drawn towards the quieter life they have built in Hawaii. While Orchid House remains a deeply sentimental part of their family history, Brosnan's latest comments suggest that the next chapter for the longtime couple could take them away from their famous Malibu oceanfront home.
