Busted: Arms smuggling bid foiled

The City police claimed to have foiled an arms smuggling bid on Wednesday and arrested the alleged smuggler. PAF Station House Officer Bashir Zad said that they had received a tip-off about vehicles carrying arms and ammunition entering Peshawar from Bara Tehsil in Khyber Agency. He said that the police set up barricades on Ring Road, where they intercepted a vehicle and recovered a large cache of arms from it. Zad said that the recovered items include 15 AK-47s, 3,510 rounds, 15 pistols, 50 packets of detonators and six 12-bore rifles. The police also arrested a man, identified as Muhammad Sadiq. Zad said that Sadiq has been shifted to an undisclosed location for interrogation. He also said that the arms were being smuggled to Punjab or Sindh for use in terrorist activities.
