Elon Musk’s ex-wife makes fresh claims about their marriage in new documentary

Elon Musk’s first wife, Justine Musk, has made claims about their marriage in the new documentary Musk, saying the billionaire made her feel “insignificant” and frequently criticised her.

The four-hour documentary, directed by Alex Gibney, premiered at the Venice Film Festival on Tuesday. Justine, who was married to Musk from 2000 to 2008, said she learned the term “gaslighting” through their relationship.

“He was constantly remarking on the ways he found me lacking,” Justine said in the documentary, according to reports. She compared Musk’s alleged treatment of her to the way a boss might speak to an employee.

Justine also recalled an incident from their January 2000 wedding, claiming Musk told her he was the “alpha in [the] relationship” while they were dancing. She had previously described the same experience in a 2010 essay for Marie Claire.

The couple had six children together. Their first child, Nevada, died at 10 weeks old in 2002. They later welcomed twins Griffin and Vivian, followed by triplets Kai, Saxon and Damian.

In the documentary, Justine also discussed Musk’s relationship with their transgender daughter, Vivian, and claimed he did not attempt to repair their estrangement. She further alleged that Musk cut off Vivian’s health insurance.

Justine also spoke about Musk’s insecurities surrounding his appearance, recalling his concern that he needed to maintain an engineer’s image.

Musk did not participate in the documentary and previously described it as a “hit piece” on social media. His representative had not immediately responded to requests for comment at the time of publication.

Musk is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on October 16.
