Connor Storrie is set to take on a very different role following his breakout success in Heated Rivalry, with the actor starring as Marco in Sarah Polley’s upcoming adaptation of Sylvia Plath’s The Bell Jar.

Storrie’s casting in the film has been confirmed alongside an impressive ensemble led by Billie Eilish, who makes her feature film acting debut as Esther Greenwood. Carey Mulligan, Danielle Deadwyler and Ike Barinholtz are also among the cast.

Storrie’s role as Marco, a character Esther is set up with on what becomes a horrifying blind date. The role gives the Heated Rivalry star a markedly different character to play as he follows his breakout performance as hockey player Chase Bianchi.

The Bell Jar is based on Plath’s semi-autobiographical 1963 novel, which follows Esther, an aspiring young writer who travels to New York City after securing a magazine internship. As her time in the city progresses, Esther struggles with her ambitions, identity and mental health while confronting the restrictive expectations placed on women at the time.

Eilish is taking on the central role of Esther, marking a major transition from her hugely successful music career into feature film acting. Mulligan plays Esther’s mother, Mrs. Greenwood, while Deadwyler portrays Dr. Nolan, Esther’s psychiatrist.

Barinholtz stars as Lenny, a wealthy New York radio host. The wider ensemble also includes Dylan Hawco as Buddy Willard, Esther’s first boyfriend, Lili Taylor as Jay Cee, the editor of Ladies’ Day magazine, Ella Beatty as Joan and Maggie Kuntz as Doreen, Esther’s best friend and fellow intern.

For Storrie, The Bell Jar represents his next major project after Heated Rivalry propelled him to international attention. His performance as Chase Bianchi opposite Hudson Williams in the hockey romance series made him one of the breakout actors of the series.

The actor has since attracted significant interest from fans and the entertainment industry, and his casting as Marco gives audiences an early look at one of his first major roles following the success of Heated Rivalry.

Polley is directing The Bell Jar from her own screenplay adaptation. Production has already wrapped on the film, which is being produced by Plan B, Studiocanal and Joy Coalition.

Focus Features will distribute The Bell Jar, although the film does not yet have an announced release date.

With Storrie moving from one highly discussed role in Heated Rivalry to a character in one of the most acclaimed literary works of the 20th century, The Bell Jar is shaping up to be a significant next step in his growing career.
