Rapper Ice Spice has opened up about the childhood memories behind her debut fragrance, In Ha Mood, revealing that vanilla played a major role in shaping its scent.
The 26-year-old rapper launched the fragrance with Revlon in August, taking inspiration from her hit song of the same name. Speaking to PEOPLE ahead of the launch, Ice Spice explained why scents have a strong connection to her memories.
“Scents are important for memory,” she said, recalling how her mother, Charina Almanzar, always kept vanilla scents in their home while Ice Spice was growing up. The familiar aroma has remained meaningful to the rapper, who said she has loved vanilla since she was a baby.
Ice Spice described vanilla as a grounding scent and said it became the base note she wanted for In Ha Mood. The fragrance also features floral notes including plum blossom, rose and magnolia, creating what she described as a feminine scent.
The rapper also connected the fragrance to the confidence she feels when listening to her song "In Ha Mood". She said wearing the perfume gives her a similar feeling, making the song and fragrance a natural pairing.
Working with Revlon was also significant for Ice Spice, who said the beauty brand was familiar to her while growing up. She described Revlon as an iconic name and said she was excited about the opportunity to collaborate with the company.
The fragrance launch marks another step in Ice Spice’s expanding career beyond music. She said she wants to continue growing professionally and exploring new opportunities.
Meanwhile, new music is also on the way. Ice Spice revealed that she recently filmed a music video and teased that fans will soon get a preview of what she has been working on.
