Jennifer Lawrence had an unexpected The Hunger Games moment while presenting an award in Paris, leaving fans convinced that Katniss Everdeen briefly took over during her speech.
The 36-year-old actress was presenting the LVMH Prize for Young Fashion Designers at the 2026 awards ceremony on Friday, September 4, when she accidentally used the word “fascism” instead of “fashion”.
“Your passion shows that fascism, fascism? Excuse me. Fashion isn’t just about clothes,” Lawrence said before laughing at her own mistake. The award ultimately went to Belgian designer Julie Kegels, who received a €400,000 cash prize as well as a year of mentoring from LVMH experts.
The comparison was particularly fitting because Katniss is the central figure in The Hunger Games, a dystopian franchise centred on a rebellion against the authoritarian Capitol. Lawrence played the character across the original four-film series, which was released between 2012 and 2015.
In the films, Katniss becomes a symbol of resistance after volunteering to take the place of her younger sister, Primrose Everdeen, in the 74th Hunger Games. Her opposition to the Capitol eventually develops into a full-scale rebellion.
Lawrence is preparing to return to the world of Panem later this year, although she will not be reprising Katniss in the main story of the upcoming prequel The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The film focuses on a young Haymitch Abernathy during the 50th Hunger Games, decades before Katniss enters the arena.
Lawrence is nevertheless involved in the new film, which is scheduled to hit cinemas on November 20, 2026. She is expected to appear as Katniss in the movie through newly filmed material connected to the character.
The actress’s accidental mention of “fascism” therefore struck fans at a particularly fitting moment, with the Hunger Games franchise once again dominating conversations ahead of the release of its latest instalment.
For now, Lawrence’s brief verbal slip appears to have been nothing more than a harmless mistake, but fans were quick to turn the moment into an amusing reminder of the character that made her a global star.
