Beyoncé drops 'B’Day' 20th anniversary edition with unreleased songs and star packed surprises

Beyoncé is marking a major milestone in her career by revisiting one of her defining albums. The singer has released B’Day 20th Anniversary Deluxe Edition, a remastered and expanded version of her second solo studio album, originally released on September 4, 2006.

The anniversary edition brings together the original album, previously released bonus material, Spanish language recordings and several tracks that have never been officially heard before. The release also includes collaborations with Maluma and the late Selena Quintanilla, giving the expanded project a distinctly international dimension.

Among the newly unveiled recordings is "Can I Watch You", produced by Beyoncé and Pharrell. The deluxe edition also introduces "Cuerpo Tumbao", a new version of "Get Me Bodied" featuring Colombian singer Maluma. According to the release notes, the track samples Celia Cruz's "La Negra Tiene Tumbao", connecting Beyoncé's work to the legacy of one of Latin music's most celebrated performers.

Another significant addition is "Irreemplazable Como La Flor", featuring previously released vocals from Selena Quintanilla. Selena's estate approved the duet, which pairs Beyoncé with a singer she has long admired. Both artists have Texas roots, and Beyoncé has previously spoken about hearing Selena's music while growing up in Houston.

The expanded release also includes "Morning Dew Donk", "My First Time", "Lost Yo Mind", "Creole" and "Back Up". Several Spanish recordings and alternate versions are included alongside the original album material, bringing the digital deluxe tracklist to 31 songs.

The project has also received a visual upgrade. Beyoncé remastered the accompanying music videos, with the footage recoloured and completed in 4K. The newly refreshed video for "Déjà Vu", her collaboration with Jay Z, was released alongside the anniversary edition.

Looking back on the album two decades after its original release, Beyoncé explained the creative direction behind B’Day. She said she wanted the record to sound powerful, energetic and heavily driven by percussion while retaining live instrumentation. She also recalled wanting to protect the bridges, melodies and harmonies associated with R&B while incorporating the influence of hip hop that dominated popular music at the time.

That approach helped shape an album that produced several major singles, including "Déjà Vu", "Ring the Alarm", "Irreplaceable", "Beautiful Liar" with Shakira and "Get Me Bodied". The album also included "Upgrade U", "Freakum Dress", "Green Light", "Kitty Kat", "Suga Mama" and "Listen".

The anniversary edition arrives as Beyoncé continues to revisit different chapters of her extensive catalogue. By adding unreleased material, Spanish recordings, newly restored visuals and high profile collaborations, the expanded B’Day gives longtime listeners previously unavailable material while presenting the 2006 era in a newly polished form.

The release also underscores the lasting influence of B’Day, an album that helped establish Beyoncé's identity as a solo artist during one of the most important stages of her career.
