Zoe Saldaña has responded to viewers who are struggling to follow the multiple timelines in Lioness season 3, encouraging fans to keep watching as the mystery surrounding Joe McNamara unfolds.

Saldaña, who stars as CIA operative Joe and serves as an executive producer on the Paramount+ thriller, addressed criticism of the season’s nonlinear storytelling after Barstool Sports’ Kevin Clancy called the structure “completely confusing” in an Instagram post.

Clancy questioned the decision to tell Lioness season 3 across different timelines, particularly as Joe’s abduction remains a central mystery. Saldaña responded in the comments, writing, “Just keep watching! Promise you won’t regret it!” alongside laughing emojis.

The third season of Lioness opens with Joe being attacked, pepper-sprayed and kidnapped. The events surrounding her abduction are gradually revealed as the story moves between different points in time.

Before the season premiered, Saldaña spoke about Joe’s dangerous situation, joking that such circumstances were almost routine for the character. She also discussed Joe’s close relationship with CIA superior and mentor Caitlyn Meade, played by Nicole Kidman.

According to Saldaña, Joe’s admiration for Caitlyn and her commitment to their work continue to influence the operative’s decisions, even when they put her in danger.

Kidman previously described Caitlyn’s relationship with Joe as extending beyond their professional roles. She said Caitlyn cares deeply about Joe, while also facing the responsibility of protecting the country.

Lioness season 3 continues to follow Joe as foreign operatives, hidden networks and personal betrayals threaten to bring the dangers of her CIA work closer to her personal life.
