Rick Riordan’s 'The Kane Chronicles' is coming to Disney+

Rick Riordan’s The Kane Chronicles is being developed as a television series at Disney+, expanding the author’s growing presence on the streaming platform.

The potential Disney+ series will be based on Riordan’s bestselling trilogy, which draws heavily from Egyptian mythology. If ordered to series, Angela Robinson, known for True Blood, The L Word and Wednesday, is set to write and executive produce the project alongside Riordan.

The Kane Chronicles follows siblings Carter and Sadie Kane, who discover that they are descendants of the ancient Egyptian pharaohs Narmer and Ramses the Great. The siblings also learn that they possess magical abilities and become involved in a conflict between powerful Egyptian gods.

According to the series logline, the story begins when the siblings’ father unleashes the god of chaos before mysteriously disappearing. Carter and Sadie must overcome their differences, learn to control their inherited Egyptian magic and work with unexpected allies to save their father and prevent the gods from causing destruction in the modern world.

The project is being developed at 20th Television and reunites Riordan with several producers from Percy Jackson and the Olympians, including Ellen Goldsmith-Vein and Jeremy Bell of the Gotham Group, as well as Rebecca Riordan.

A screen adaptation of The Kane Chronicles was previously in development at Netflix, but the project did not move forward after the company’s option expired in 2024.

The Disney+ series would further build on Riordan’s relationship with the streamer following the success of Percy Jackson and the Olympians.
