Miley Cyrus drops last name as Billy Ray Cyrus breaks his silence

Miley Cyrus has dropped her last name ahead of the release of her upcoming 10th studio album, “Bass Persuades,” with her father, Billy Ray Cyrus, publicly supporting the decision.

The pop star announced the name change as she prepares to release her new album on September 18 through Atlantic Records. The move sparked speculation about the longtime rumours surrounding Miley Cyrus and Billy Ray Cyrus’ relationship.

However, Billy Ray addressed the change on X, saying that Miley had told him about her decision beforehand and that he supported her choice. He compared her decision to other major artists who have been widely known by their first names, including Dolly, Cher, Elvis and Prince.

“Family means more than ever now,” Billy Ray wrote, adding that he has always called his daughter simply Miley. He also expressed his support for her upcoming album and described the name change as a natural progression for the singer.

“Bass Persuades” will feature 10 songs, with guest appearances from Model/Actriz and Andrew Wyatt of Miike Snow. Cyrus is also scheduled to return to the stage for two concerts at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on October 16 and 18.

Miley Cyrus and Billy Ray Cyrus have faced speculation about tensions in their relationship for several years. Despite those reports, the father and daughter reunited earlier this year for the “Hannah Montana” 20th anniversary special.

Miley previously said that music has remained an important way for the pair to communicate and stay connected through family challenges.
