Tom Hardy is officially back for ‘MobLand’ Season 3 after explosive behind the scenes drama

Paramount+ confirms the crime drama will return, with Season 2 set to premiere on September 18

Tom Hardy is officially staying with MobLand after months of uncertainty surrounding his future on the Paramount+ crime drama. The streamer has now confirmed that the series will return for a third season, with Hardy reprising his role as Harry Da Souza, the sharp and formidable fixer at the centre of the Harrigan family’s criminal world.

The confirmation brings an end to one of the biggest behind the scenes stories surrounding the series. Reports earlier this year suggested Hardy could be removed from MobLand following tensions involving screenwriter, showrunner and executive producer Jez Butterworth, producer David Glasser and members of the production team. At one stage, reports claimed Hardy would not return if the crime drama received a third season.

However, it was later reported that the situation was not as final as it first appeared. Sources told the publication in May that Hardy had not been fired and that discussions were taking place to find a creative solution that would allow him to remain with the series. By July, it was reported that Hardy was expected to return for a potential third season after meetings with Butterworth and Glasser in London.

The latest announcement makes that return official. Hardy will continue as Harry Da Souza, the trusted fixer working for the Harrigan family, led by Pierce Brosnan’s Conrad Harrigan and Helen Mirren’s Maeve Harrigan. His character has become one of the defining figures in the series, regularly caught between competing interests while attempting to keep the powerful crime family from collapsing.

The development is especially significant because the controversy unfolded after production on Season 2 had already wrapped. According to Variety, filming on the second season concluded in March, leaving Hardy’s status for a potential third season as a major question surrounding the future of the show.

Paramount+ has continued to position Hardy prominently in its promotion for the upcoming second season. The streamer describes Harry as a street smart fixer caught between rising threats and growing tensions within the Harrigan family. The official series page confirms Hardy alongside Brosnan and Mirren, while Paramount+ has also released promotional material centred on Harry and his role within the criminal organisation.

Before the third season arrives, viewers still have Season 2 to watch. The ten episode season is scheduled to premiere on September 18, with episodes released weekly on Paramount+. The new story will centre on the Harrigans struggling to maintain control as rivals threaten their fractured criminal empire. Harry will once again be placed in a dangerous position as tensions inside the family intensify.

The returning cast also includes Paddy Considine, Joanne Froggatt, Lara Pulver, Anson Boon, Mandeep Dhillon and Jasmine Jobson. Their characters will join Hardy, Brosnan and Mirren as the Harrigan family faces fresh threats in the second season.
