K-P approves free e-scooters for women

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi has granted in-principle approval for the provision of free electric scooters to female students and working women and directed the relevant authorities to take immediate steps for the launch of the initiative.

Chairing a meeting regarding the proposed distribution of free electric scooters, the chief minister said the project would play an important role in empowering women and enabling them to become more independent and self-reliant.

He directed the authorities concerned to ensure the effective and transparent implementation of the scheme and immediately notify a steering committee, a technical working group and a grievance redressal committee for the project. He also ordered the provision of complete funding to ensure the timely launch and smooth implementation of the initiative.

The chief minister said the scheme would help provide women with safe, convenient and dignified access to educational institutions and workplaces. He observed that transportation difficulties often create obstacles for female students and working women, and said the provincial government's initiative was aimed at reducing such challenges by offering them an affordable and independent means of transport.

Addressing the meeting, Afridi said the environmentally friendly electric scooters would not only contribute to women's economic independence but would also help reduce air pollution by promoting cleaner modes of transportation.

He said the K-P government would continue taking practical measures for investment in people, women's development, confidence-building and empowerment in accordance with the vision of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder Imran Khan.
