Ships Ahoy: Union fights for 15,000 labourers
The labourers work 12 to 14 hours a day and have not been employed on a permanent basis

The only ship-breaking company on the 15 kilometre long coast has over 15,000 labourers who are in trouble and find it impossible to make ends meet, said a leader of the National Trade Union Federation at a seminar on Wednesday. They highlighted the conditions of the ship-breaking workers in Gadani and said that nearly 140 ships were torn into pieces every year. The labourers work 12 to 14 hours a day and have not been employed on a permanent basis, which means that they have no access to social security.
