Rob Reiner’s son Jake breaks silence after parents’ deaths

Jake Reiner has spoken publicly for the first time about life after the deaths of his parents, filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, describing the past eight months as an overwhelming period of grief and loss.

In an interview with KABC-TV, Jake reflected on losing both parents and the arrest of his brother, Nick Reiner, who has been charged in connection with their deaths. Jake said the passage of time has felt difficult to process as he adjusts to a drastically changed family.

“It’s been 8 months. It feels like 8 years at the same time. And it also feels like 8 minutes,” Jake said, explaining that he is reminded of what happened every morning.

Jake also recalled learning about his parents’ deaths from his sister, Romy. According to Jake, Romy told him that their father was dead before saying she could not find their mother.

The loss has left Jake and Romy facing life without their parents while their brother remains in custody. Jake described the situation as losing more than half of his immediate family, saying that he physically lost his parents and that Nick was subsequently arrested.

Rob Reiner, known for directing films including When Harry Met Sally..., The Princess Bride and A Few Good Men, and Michele were killed in December, according to the report. Their deaths led to a major criminal investigation involving their son.

Jake and Romy later testified before a Los Angeles grand jury that indicted Nick on two counts of first-degree murder in connection with their parents’ deaths.

Nick remains in custody at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Twin Towers Correctional Facility and is being held without bail, according to the report.

Jake’s interview offers a rare glimpse into the family’s grief as the legal proceedings surrounding his brother continue.
