Asha Bhosle’s final film song to release on what would have been her 93rd birthday

Asha Bhosle’s voice is set to return to the big screen one final time on September 8, the day she would have turned 93, with the release of her last recorded feature-film song.

Titled Ae Meri Zindagi, Tu Chupi Hai Kahan, the song was recorded in late 2023, when Bhosle was already in her 90s, for the upcoming father-son drama-comedy Om Ka Hari. The film is directed by Harish Vyas and stars Anshuman Jha, Raghubir Yadav, Soni Razdan and Ayesha Kapur.

Bhosle died in Mumbai on April 12 at the age of 92, bringing to a close a career that spanned more than seven decades. She recorded more than 12,000 songs across multiple languages and became one of the defining voices of Indian cinema.

Her final song will now arrive on her birth anniversary, giving audiences one last opportunity to hear her voice in a feature film.

Having Bhosle's voice feature in the song at the emotional heart of the film made the experience particularly meaningful for him. Jha described recording with the legendary singer as a moment of immense joy, while expressing his regret that she would not be there to see the finished film.

Born on September 8, 1933, in Sangli, Maharashtra, Bhosle began her recording career as a child and went on to become one of India's most versatile playback singers. Her repertoire stretched across genres and generations, with iconic songs including Dum Maro Dum, Piya Tu Ab To Aaja, Chura Liya Hai Tumne Jo Dil Ko and Yeh Mera Dil.

Her career also included acclaimed soundtracks such as Teesri Manzil, Caravan, Umrao Jaan and Ijaazat, while her work beyond Hindi cinema further established her as an influential figure in Indian music.

Bhosle remained closely connected to her craft well into old age, continuing to perform and record despite being in her 90s. Her death in April was widely mourned across India's film and music industries. She was laid to rest with full state honours at Mumbai's Shivaji Park.
