Amelia Dimoldenberg is developing a Gen Z BBC drama inspired by Skins, expanding beyond Chicken Shop Date

Amelia Dimoldenberg is developing a new young adult drama series for the BBC, inspired by the influential British teen series Skins.

The project marks another step in the Chicken Shop Date creator’s expanding television career.

Dimoldenberg revealed the project while speaking at the Edinburgh TV Festival, describing the planned series as her own version of Skins. The Channel 4 drama became a defining series for a generation and helped launch the careers of actors including Nicholas Hoult, Jack O’Connell and Kaya Scodelario.

Dimoldenberg is writing the BBC drama, although the project has not yet received an official greenlight from the broadcaster. She did not disclose details about the storyline or potential cast, but said creating a television series has long been one of her ambitions.

The creator acknowledged that development has taken longer than expected but remains determined to bring the project to screens. She compared the process to building Chicken Shop Date from its early online beginnings into a hugely popular YouTube series.

Dimoldenberg has increasingly expanded beyond digital content through her production company, Dimz Inc. Her upcoming romantic comedy film is also in development with Amazon MGM Studios’ Orion Pictures, further broadening her work across film and television.

Chicken Shop Date has become a viral entertainment phenomenon, with Dimoldenberg interviewing major actors and musicians in her distinctive, awkward and humorous style. She has previously expressed interest in interviewing stars such as Timothée Chalamet, while maintaining a strict policy against interviewing members of the British royal family.

If commissioned, the untitled BBC drama would give Dimoldenberg an opportunity to bring her distinctive perspective to a scripted Gen Z series while drawing inspiration from one of British television’s most influential teen dramas.
