Perez Hilton begins mental health recovery after hospital treatment

Perez Hilton is beginning to focus on his mental health after receiving treatment for physical injuries following his hospitalisation earlier this month, according to his brother-in-law, Tom.

The 48-year-old blogger was hospitalised on August 4 after an alarming TikTok livestream from his Miami home. Authorities treated Hilton for lacerations and an overdose before he was taken to hospital under Florida's Baker Act.

Hilton experienced "significant blood loss" and additional injuries that required surgery, while his family previously said he had been receiving inpatient medical care. His TikTok account was subsequently banned.

In an August 24 episode of The Perez Hilton Podcast with Chris Booker, Tom provided an update on Hilton's recovery and said the blogger had been receiving treatment for his physical injuries until shortly before the recording.

"The cutting, a couple of falls that happened during this process," Tom said, describing some of the injuries Hilton experienced. He added that Hilton had suffered broken bones alongside other issues connected to his previous struggle with sepsis.

"So, we are now just transitioning into the mental side of things," Tom said. He explained that psychiatrists had been checking on Hilton while he received physical treatment, but that the deeper work surrounding his mental health had not yet begun.

"The actual healing, or digging into what caused this mental break as I've called it, hasn't been discovered," Tom said. "I don't know if it will ever be."

Tom also said Hilton is currently "lucid", although the family has avoided extensively discussing the August 4 incident because of concerns about triggering anxiety during his recovery.

Hilton remains in hospital, where electronics are not permitted in his room. He has been making calls to family members from the nurse's station and has not seen his children because they are not permitted in the section where he is receiving treatment.

His mother, Teresita Lavandeira, was granted temporary custody of his three children on August 18, with Hilton receiving supervised visitation subject to psychiatric clearance.

Tom said there is currently no timeline for Hilton's recovery.
