Dazed Games’ How to Fish has sold 1 million copies in just two days following its launch on Steam, quickly establishing itself among the platform’s top-selling games.

The fishing game has attracted players with its unusual premise and multiplayer-focused gameplay. It follows players and their friends as they catch and sell creatures, upgrade their boat and attempt to make their way home.

While the game is presented as a fishing experience, its mechanics go beyond traditional angling. Players can use a range of weapons to take down their catches, including brass knuckles, SMGs and dynamite.

The value of each creature is determined partly by its killscore multiplier, which can increase through trickshots.

As players earn money, they can travel to new islands featuring increasingly difficult catches. The basic gameplay loop involves casting a line, reeling in a creature, defeating it and selling the catch to fund further upgrades.

The game also features bosses that can provide additional challenges as players progress.

How to Fish has accumulated nearly 12,000 reviews on Steam and currently carries a “Very Positive” rating. The game is available at a launch-week price of $4.95, before increasing to $7.99 on August 28.

Two patches have already been released following launch, addressing bugs and making balance changes.

How to Fish currently leads this week’s Steam Top Sellers list, according to the information provided by Dazed Games.
