Acid burn centre goes functional at HFH

The acid burn treatment centre for women injured in acid attacks has been made functional at Holy Family Hospital, the largest hospital in the city.

Acid burn treatment centres have also been established in six other cities of Punjab to provide free treatment without delay to acid attack victims under the Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz initiative.

According to officials, besides strict legal action against people involved in the criminal act of burning the faces and other body parts of women and children with acid, a 35-bed acid burn centre has been established at Holy Family Hospital to provide free and quality treatment to victims without delay.

All treatment facilities have been made available at the centre, where women brought in with acid burns are shifted from the emergency department to the attached acid burn treatment centre, where they are immediately provided relief from pain and their regular treatment is started.

Medical Superintendent Holy Family Hospital Dr Ijaz Butt said the centres had been established for the first time in eight cities of Punjab, including Holy Family Hospital, under the Punjab Social Protection Department. He said each centre provides immediate treatment facilities to affected women, children and men and takes measures to help them recover from the painful situation.
