The upcoming live-action Gundam movie appears to be set in the franchise’s Universal Century timeline, according to comments from actor Noah Centineo, one of the film’s main stars.
Centineo discussed the upcoming Netflix movie in a recent interview, confirming that its story will take place within the Universal Century, or UC, timeline.
The development follows previous set leaks that showed Federation uniforms and vehicles, as well as other details that had led fans to speculate that the film would be connected to the main Gundam timeline.
The Universal Century is the primary timeline established by the original Mobile Suit Gundam anime. Numerous works have continued stories within the setting, including the Gundam Hathaway films.
Other Gundam series, such as Gundam Wing and The Witch from Mercury, take place in separate alternate timelines.
Centineo also reportedly confirmed that the live-action film's story is "Romeo and Juliet in space".
The description suggests a story structure involving opposing sides and a central relationship, with the concept drawing comparisons to Gundam works including Gundam 0080 and 08th MS Team.
