Andrew Garfield has opened up about his desire to step away from the Hollywood spotlight, admitting that he sometimes thinks about leaving showbusiness altogether.
The Amazing Spider-Man star recently completed nearly a year of consecutive film work, appearing in several major projects, including The Magic Faraway Tree, The Uprising and Artificial, a biopic about OpenAI CEO Sam Altman.
Speaking to Variety, Garfield, 43, joked that he would rather spend his time “whittle wood in the Somerset countryside” than promote his upcoming films. His comments reflect a growing desire to prioritise his personal life and wellbeing over the demands of a high-profile acting career.
Garfield explained that his ambitions have shifted in recent years. Rather than focusing solely on career achievements, the actor said he is increasingly interested in the quality of his life and his relationships.
The actor has previously taken extended breaks from Hollywood. In 2022, Garfield stepped away from acting for two years following an intense period that included a demanding awards season. The hiatus allowed him to reassess his priorities before returning to major film projects.
His latest comments suggest that Garfield remains open to taking another break from acting, although he has not announced plans to retire from Hollywood.
Garfield has built a reputation for taking on a wide range of roles, from his portrayal of Peter Parker in The Amazing Spider-Man films to acclaimed performances in projects such as Hacksaw Ridge, Silence and Tick, Tick... Boom!
For now, the actor's upcoming films are expected to keep him in the spotlight, even as he considers a quieter life away from Hollywood promotion and the pressures of celebrity.
