Hayden Panettiere’s mother questions timeline of actress’s final hours

Hayden Panettiere’s mother, Lesley Vogel, has questioned the reported timeline surrounding her daughter’s final hours, saying the account she received about what happened before the actress was found unresponsive is “full of holes”.

Panettiere, known for Heroes and Nashville, died aged 36 on August 16 at a residence in Greenville, South Carolina.

First responders arrived after a 911 call at around 1.51pm and found her in cardiac arrest. She was pronounced dead shortly after 2.30pm despite attempts to resuscitate her.

An autopsy found no signs of trauma that contributed to her death. Her official cause and manner of death remain under investigation, with toxicology results still pending.

Vogel, 70, told the Daily Mail that she has pressed investigators for answers and questioned the timeline she says was provided by Panettiere’s on-again, off-again partner Brian Hickerson.

According to Vogel, Hickerson told police that Panettiere was doing her makeup at around 10.30am before he left the property.

She said she was subsequently told he returned, went to sleep and that his brother Zach later arrived before Panettiere was found unresponsive.

“I don't know how you can take a nap near someone who's dying and not realize something's wrong,” Vogel told the Daily Mail.

Hickerson has not been accused of a crime in connection with Panettiere’s death, and authorities have not announced evidence of foul play. His attorney has asked for privacy while the investigation continues.

Hickerson’s brother Zach separately told People that Brian attempted to revive Panettiere after finding her unconscious and administered Narcan, which can rapidly reverse an opioid overdose.

Emergency dispatch audio reportedly referred to an apparent overdose, but this has not been established as the official cause of death.

Vogel also discussed Panettiere’s history with Hickerson, describing their relationship as a “codependent bond”.
