Interim bail granted in Yellow Line corruption case

Accused ordered to submit surety bonds worth Rs500,000

KARACHI:

A provincial anti-corruption court has granted interim bail to Jhaman Das, a former procurement director and co-accused in a case involving alleged corruption of Rs8.5 billion in the BRT Yellow Line project. The court directed the accused to submit surety bonds worth Rs500,000.

According to the written order, Jhaman Das has also been directed to join the investigation and appear before the investigating officer whenever required. The court further ordered him to ensure his attendance at every hearing.

Notices were issued to the investigating officer and the complainant, with the matter adjourned until September 3.

Missing persons case

The constitutional bench of the Sindh High Court has sought a progress report on petitions seeking the recovery of several citizens reported missing from different areas of the city.

During the hearing, police submitted a report stating that two missing persons, Rana Afaq and Rehan Ahmed, had been recovered. The two had reportedly gone missing from the jurisdictions of Shah Latif Town and Khokhrapar police stations.

However, Irfanul Haq, who went missing from the Ittehad Town area, and Muzammil, who disappeared within the jurisdiction of Eidgah police station, remain untraced. Abdul Nasir, who went missing from the SITE Super Highway area, has also not been located.

Ice recovery case

The SHC has allowed an appeal against the conviction of a man - Sakhi Dad - in a case involving the recovery of crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as ice, and ordered his release.

The court observed that the investigating officer had failed to deposit the case property within the stipulated time and had also not sent the narcotics allegedly recovered from the accused to the chemical examiner promptly.
