Noah Wyle is returning to the emergency department as Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch in The Pitt season 3, with HBO Max releasing the first teaser for the Emmy-winning medical drama ahead of its January 2027 premiere.

The new season will continue to follow healthcare workers dealing with the intense realities of a modern hospital in Pittsburgh. Like previous seasons, The Pitt season 3 will unfold during a single shift, with the upcoming story taking place in November.

The teaser marks Robby’s return after a four-month sabbatical. Wyle previously described his character as a “slightly changed man” following his time away from the hospital. According to the actor, Robby’s sabbatical was therapeutic and helped him develop a more positive outlook, although returning to the emergency department will leave him feeling fragile and tentative.

The The Pitt season 3 cast includes Patrick Ball as Dr. Langdon, Katherine LaNasa as Dana Evans, Fiona Dourif as Dr. McKay, Taylor Dearden as Dr. King, Isa Briones as Dr. Santos and Gerran Howell as Dr. Whitaker. Sepideh Moafi will return as Dr. Al-Hashimi, while Shawn Hatosy joins the season as Dr. Abbott.

Moafi previously revealed that Al-Hashimi had been running the emergency department during Robby’s absence alongside Abbott and Dr. Ellis. She also teased a reunion between Robby and Al-Hashimi after their major confrontation in the previous season.

The Pitt season 2 concluded in April 2026 with 25 Emmy nominations, making it the most-nominated drama series at this year’s awards.

Created by R. Scott Gemmill, the series is executive produced by Gemmill, John Wells, Wyle and others. The Pitt season 3 premieres on HBO Max in January 2027.
