The Pitt is giving fans their first glimpse at season 3, with HBO Max releasing a new teaser ahead of the medical drama's return in January 2027.

The third season of the Emmy-winning series is currently in production, having begun filming in June. The first-look footage offers an early preview of the next chapter at Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center, with Noah Wyle returning as Dr. Michael "Robby" Robinavitch alongside the returning ensemble.

Season 3 will once again follow the doctors and staff through a single 15-hour shift in the emergency department, but the story will move forward by several months from the events of season 2. The new season will take place in November, bringing colder weather and a different set of medical emergencies to the hospital.

The change in setting also allows the series to explore where its characters are after the intense events of season 2. Wyle previously teased that the new season will focus heavily on Robby's continuing journey, with the doctor confronting the consequences of what he has experienced while working in the emergency department.

Wyle described the central idea behind the first three seasons in simple terms, saying season 1 was about "the doctor is the patient", season 2 showed that "doctors don't make very good patients", while season 3 will explore how "doctors benefit from being patients."

The season will also feature a notable cast change. Supriya Ganesh, who played Dr. Samira Mohan, will not return as a series regular, while Sepideh Moafi and Ayesha Harris are among the returning cast members. The returning ensemble also includes Katherine LaNasa, Fiona Dourif, Patrick Ball, Taylor Dearden, Isa Briones, Gerran Howell, Shabana Azeez and Shawn Hatosy.

The third season is expected to maintain the show's annual release schedule. Season 1 premiered in January 2025 and season 2 followed in January 2026, with HBO Max previously making clear that keeping the series on an annual cadence was a priority.

The Pitt has become one of HBO Max's biggest dramas since its debut, earning major critical recognition and leading this year's Emmy nominations with 25 nods.

Season 3 is scheduled to return in January 2027 on HBO Max, although an exact premiere date has yet to be announced.
