Steven Yeun is set to lead Pagans, an upcoming supernatural drama series at Netflix from Say Nothing creator Joshua Zetumer.
The series received a straight-to-series order from Netflix last year following a competitive bidding situation. Yeun will play a father who becomes the sole caretaker of his two children after the tragic death of his wife.
According to the series premise, the father struggles to connect with his son while his relationship with his daughter, Alice, becomes increasingly complicated. What begins as a strained father-daughter dynamic eventually takes a darker and more sinister turn, setting the stage for the supernatural drama.
Zetumer, who created Say Nothing, will serve as showrunner and executive producer on Pagans. Drew Goddard and Sarah Esberg will also executive produce through Goddard Textiles, while Jonathan van Tulleken and Erica Kay are attached as executive producers. Yeun and Christina Oh will executive produce for Celadon Pictures.
The project reunites Yeun with Netflix after his acclaimed performance in the first season of Beef, in which he starred opposite Ali Wong. Yeun won both an Emmy and Golden Globe for his performance in the limited series and was also part of the ensemble that received the Emmy for Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series.
Yeun has maintained a strong relationship with Netflix, appearing in films including The Rip and Bong Joon Ho’s Okja. He also voiced a character in the animated series Tuca & Bertie.
Beyond Netflix, Yeun is known for playing Glenn Rhee on The Walking Dead and voicing the lead character in Amazon’s animated series Invincible. His film credits include Minari, Nope, Mickey 17 and Burning. He received an Oscar nomination for Minari in 2021.
Pagans does not yet have an announced release date.
