Prime Video’s 'Bloodaxe' adds five stars ahead of its 2027 debut
Prime Video’s historical drama Bloodaxe is expanding its ensemble, with five actors joining the cast for the upcoming second season.
Gard Løkke, known for Home for Christmas and The Trip to the Northern Lights, has joined the MGM Television series as a series regular. Melina Åkerman, Kieran Bew, Sebastian Bull and George Burgess have also been cast in recurring roles.
Production on Bloodaxe season 2 has begun in Ireland, even though the first season has yet to premiere. The historical drama comes from Michael Hirst and Horatio Hirst and is inspired by the true story of Norse ruler Erik Bloodaxe and his wife, Gunnhild, known as the Mother of Kings.
Xavier Molyneux stars as Erik Bloodaxe, while Jessica Madsen plays Gunnhild. The series chronicles the rise of the Viking-era couple as they navigate power struggles, political conflicts and the fight for the Norwegian throne.
The first season of Bloodaxe is scheduled to premiere globally on Prime Video in early 2027. The streamer ordered a second season earlier this summer, giving the historical series a head start on its next chapter before viewers have even seen season 1.
Michael and Horatio Hirst serve as writers, showrunners and executive producers. Additional executive producers include Morgan O’Sullivan, Steve Stark, Arturo Interian, John Weber and Sheila Hockin.
The latest casting news adds further international talent to the Viking drama, with Bew previously appearing in House of the Dragon and Beowulf. Bull has credits including 2 Days and Azrael, while Burgess has appeared in Beast and Spartacus: House of Ashur.
With filming underway in Ireland, Bloodaxe is shaping up as one of Prime Video’s major upcoming historical dramas.
