'Sindh lets mills stock wheat for three months'
The Sindh cabinet on Tuesday approved raising the wheat storage limit for flour mills from one month to three months while keeping the price of flour at Rs112 per kilogram, Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said.
The cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, also approved a DAP subsidy package for wheat growers owning up to 25 acres and additional funding of Rs441.9 million for the PIFTAC project.
Speaking at a press conference after the cabinet meeting, Sharjeel said Sindh's total wheat availability for 2026 stood at 4.84 million metric tonnes, while stocks had declined from 1.18 million tonnes to 700,000 tonnes.
He said more than 800 unauthorised warehouses had been inspected across the province, resulting in the seizure of 257,738 metric tonnes of wheat. Another 190,000 tonnes had been seized during anti-hoarding operations, he added.
Under the new decision, flour mills will be allowed to maintain wheat stocks for up to three months instead of one month. However, mills will be required to sell flour at the notified price of Rs112 per kilogram.
