A key development in the Nancy Guthrie disappearance investigation has emerged after human remains were discovered in a remote desert area near Tucson, Arizona.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that human remains were found near West Ajo Way and South La Cholla Boulevard.

However, authorities stressed that there is currently no indication the discovery is connected to the investigation into Guthrie’s disappearance.

“PCSD Search & Rescue deputies are responding to reports of human remains found in a desert area near West Ajo Way and South La Cholla Boulevard. At this time, there is no indication they are connected to the Nancy Guthrie investigation,” the sheriff’s office said in a post on X.

According to TMZ, the remains were discovered around 15 miles from Guthrie’s home in a “very remote” desert area that reportedly required a long hike to reach.

“Our boots on the ground say the bones are definitively not Nancy Guthrie,” a source told TMZ.

CNN also reported that the remains appeared to have been at the location for an extended period. TMZ described them as “bleached white bones”, suggesting prolonged exposure to sunlight.

Guthrie, 84, is the mother of NBC journalist and Today show host Savannah Guthrie.

She disappeared from her Tucson home in the early hours of February 1, 2026, after authorities determined she had been taken against her will.

Investigators have yet to name a suspect or make an arrest. Despite hundreds of leads and extensive search efforts, authorities have not publicly identified a motive or determined where Guthrie is.
