K-P launches disaster risk reduction policy
KP government
The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government has formally launched Pakistan's first sub-national Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Policy, marking a major step towards making the province safer, climate-resilient and better prepared to cope with natural and climate-related hazards.
The policy was launched at a high-level ceremony held at the Chief Minister's House in Peshawar. The event was jointly organised by the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) and the Relief, Rehabilitation and Settlement Department. The policy has been developed with the support of the German government, particularly the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
The ceremony was attended by senior government officials, development partners, diplomats, humanitarian organisations, academics, civil society representatives and members of the media.
Speaking on behalf of the chief minister, Provincial Information and Public Relations Minister Shafi Jan described the launch as a landmark in the province's history. He said the policy was not merely a document but a practical expression of the government's commitment to protecting the lives and property of the people.
