Lady health workers staged a protest at Teen Talwar on Monday, demanding job security, a service structure and protection of their other legitimate rights, disrupting traffic in the area.
The protest continued for several hours before being called off following successful negotiations with government authorities and assurances that most of their demands would be accepted.
Police also detained several women during the demonstration.
The protesters said around 17,000 lady health workers were serving across Sindh and demanded protection of their jobs, a proper service structure and allocation of adequate funds for the programme in the provincial budget.
They also called for an end to any plan to outsource the services of lady health workers to a private company or third party and demanded protection of all their legitimate rights under the service rules.
After negotiations, Lady Health Workers Association central president Halima Laghari announced the end of the protest.
