Disney reveals new details about Monsters, Inc. land coming to Disney World

Disney has revealed new details about its upcoming Monsters, Inc.-themed land at Walt Disney World's Hollywood Studios, including a first-of-its-kind suspended roller coaster and several new attractions.

The new area, called Monstropolis, is scheduled to open in 2027 and will transport guests into the world of Pixar's Monsters, Inc. The land will replace the former Muppets Courtyard and Muppet*Vision 3D attraction.

The centrepiece will be a suspended coaster that takes guests through the iconic door vault from Monsters, Inc. The ride will begin with a dramatic 40-foot vertical launch before sending riders through the factory, marking the first suspended coaster at any Disney park.

Monstropolis will also feature several locations inspired by the film, including Harryhausen's, a sushi restaurant, as well as a pizza shop, Monsters University and the Scare Emporium gift shop. Another attraction, the Glob Theater, will host entertainment featuring characters from the franchise.

The land's story will centre on H.U.M.A.N. Day, when the monsters of Monstropolis invite humans into their city to prove that people are friendly. The concept allows guests to become part of the world rather than simply visiting a recreation of the film's locations.

Disney also previewed a new song for the area called "Welcome to Monstropolis", written by Randy Newman. Megan Hilty performed the song during Disney's D23 presentation, offering fans an early taste of the entertainment planned for the new land.

Although Monsters, Inc. is taking over the former Muppets area, the Muppets will not disappear entirely from Hollywood Studios. The park is also reimagining Rock 'n' Roller Coaster as a Muppets-themed attraction, which is expected to open in 2026.

Monstropolis is expected to open at Disney's Hollywood Studios in 2027, adding another major Pixar-inspired experience to Walt Disney World.
