Selena Gomez calls Wondermind lawsuit 'meritless' as lawyer moves to dismiss claims

Selena Gomez is pushing back against a lawsuit filed by investors in Wondermind, with her lawyer calling the allegations against the singer and entrepreneur "completely meritless" and saying he plans to seek their dismissal.

Two companies, Wondermind SRS 44 LLC and Bespoke Wondermind LLC, sued Gomez, her mother Mandy Teefey and their former business partner Daniella Pierson earlier this week. The investors allege that they were misled about the mental health startup's infrastructure, leadership and resources.

Gomez's lawyer, Mathew S. Rosengart, strongly denied the allegations against his client in an exclusive statement to People.

"The allegations that Selena Gomez engaged in any way whatsoever in any purported 'fraud' or other wrongdoing are completely meritless, both factually and legally," Rosengart said. "We will vigorously defend these false allegations and indeed are filing a motion to dismiss the baseless claims against her."

According to the lawsuit, the investors put nearly $1.2 million into Wondermind and claim they were kept unaware as the company faced financial difficulties. They allege that Wondermind had "quietly collapsed around them" and that they only learned about its struggles last fall through reporting in The Cut.

The lawsuit follows reports about financial problems at Wondermind. Forbes reported in May that the company had struggled to pay employees. A source previously told PEOPLE that Gomez, who is not involved in the company's day-to-day operations, invested additional money after learning about its latest financial setback.

Gomez co-founded Wondermind with Teefey and Pierson as a mental health-focused platform. Teefey has not publicly commented on the lawsuit, while Pierson has "categorically" denied the allegations in a statement to The New York Times.

For now, Gomez's legal team is preparing to challenge the claims in court, while the lawsuit against her, Teefey and Pierson remains ongoing.
