‘Incredibles 3’ finally reveals its first look as Pixar teases a secret mission for Violet, Dash and Jack-Jack ahead of 2028 release

Pixar has unveiled the first concept art and new story details for Incredibles 3, giving fans their first substantial glimpse at the long awaited return of the Parr family. The material was presented during the Disney Entertainment Showcase at the D23 fan event, where the studio also confirmed that the upcoming animated sequel remains scheduled for a theatrical release on June 16, 2028.

The third film will bring back the familiar superhero family of Bob Parr, also known as Mr Incredible, Helen Parr, also known as Elastigirl, Violet, Dash and Jack Jack. Craig T Nelson is returning as Bob, Holly Hunter is back as Helen, Sarah Vowell will reprise Violet and Huck Milner will again voice Dash. Samuel L Jackson is also returning as Frozone.

One of the biggest changes behind the scenes is the arrival of Peter Sohn as director. Sohn, who previously directed Pixar films including The Good Dinosaur and Elemental, is taking over directing duties from Brad Bird. Bird remains closely connected to the project as a writer and producer, continuing his involvement with the franchise he created.

The new footage reportedly shifts attention towards the younger Parrs. Violet, Dash and Jack Jack are expected to take on larger roles as they secretly leave home at night to use their powers to protect the city. Their attempts to keep their activities hidden from Bob and Helen introduce a new family dynamic while preserving the central superhero premise of the franchise.

The story follows the events of Incredibles 2, which ended with superheroes once again gaining legal acceptance. The 2018 sequel saw the Parr family confront Screenslaver after superheroes had spent years operating outside the law. Its conclusion established a new status quo for the family and opened the door for another chapter.

Another important detail is that Incredibles 3 will not use a major time jump. Bird has confirmed that Violet, Dash and Jack Jack will remain at the same general ages seen in the previous film. That decision allows the sequel to continue developing the family dynamics established across the first two films rather than moving the characters into a completely different stage of life.

The franchise has already demonstrated enormous commercial strength. The Incredibles, released in 2004, became a major Pixar success before Incredibles 2 arrived 14 years later in 2018. The sequel eventually earned about $1.24bn worldwide, becoming Pixar's highest grossing film at the time before Inside Out 2 surpassed it in 2024. The first two films have collectively earned roughly $1.87bn worldwide.

Disney officially confirmed the June 16, 2028 release date during its 2026 Annual Meeting of Shareholders. The date had previously been held for an untitled Pixar project before being assigned to Incredibles 3. The film is therefore set to arrive almost exactly 10 years after Incredibles 2, which opened in cinemas on June 15, 2018.

With Pixar now revealing concept art and additional details, anticipation around Incredibles 3 is set to build well ahead of its 2028 theatrical debut.
